About us
A plain-language guide to what it costs to accept cards, for the people who actually pay those costs.
Why this exists
Almost every business takes cards. Almost nobody understands what they pay for it. That is not because owners are not smart. It is because the paperwork is genuinely hard to read, and because a lot of the industry prefers it that way.
RateCheckrr exists to explain it. What each line on your statement is, what is normal, what is negotiable, and what to do about it.
What we do
- Explain the fees. One page per thing, in words a busy owner can read between customers.
- Describe the providers. How each one prices, bills and cancels. No rankings.
- Give you tools. Three calculators that run in your browser and store nothing.
- Offer a free statement review. One of our payment-processing partners reads your actual bill and tells you what they find.
What we are not
We are not a payment processor, a bank, or a financial adviser. We do not process payments, hold money, or give advice about your business. We are a referral service, and we are open about how that pays for the site: how we make money.
Where we cover
Canada and the United States. Rules differ between the two, sometimes a lot, so pages say which country they apply to and note the differences inline. There are dedicated hubs for Canada and the United States.
What is coming
Merchant services first, because that is where the confusion is worst. Over time we plan to cover other things small businesses have to buy and never enjoy shopping for.
How we work
Our editorial policy sets out how pages are researched, reviewed and corrected. The short version: no invented numbers, no unsourced "best" claims, and we fix mistakes in public.
Who we are
Company details: {{VERIFY: legal entity name not yet decided}}. Team bios and named authors are being added as the site grows.
